MEET THE TEAM: LUCY BEAUMONT, RESEARCHER AT LIVERPOOL CONVENTION BUREAU

Lucy Beaumont LCB Researcher.

As part of Liverpool Convention Bureau’s commitment to developing the next generation of business events talent, the team recently welcomed Lucy Beaumont as its new Researcher.

From identifying future conference bids to connecting with experts across the city region, Lucy plays an important role in helping bring business events to Liverpool.

We caught up with Lucy to find out what inspires her, what she’s learned so far and why she’s excited to be part of Liverpool City Region’s business events success story.

What attracted you to a career in research and identifying opportunities?

“I’ve always loved learning new things and sharing that knowledge with others. Every new project gives you the chance to explore a different sector, meet different people and discover something you didn’t know before.

“It was through the research projects I completed at university that I realised just how much I enjoyed that process. No two topics were ever the same, and that’s something that really appealed to me. The opportunity to do that in a role that supports a city I care about was too good to pass up.”

What was it about Liverpool Convention Bureau and Liverpool City Region that made you want to join the team?

“Liverpool has such a strong reputation for hosting world-class events and using business tourism to support economic growth, so joining a team that’s helping drive that was really exciting.

“I’ve also been struck by the passion and enthusiasm of everyone I’ve met so far. It feels like a genuinely collaborative environment where people want to support each other and make a difference. Being part of a team that’s showcasing Liverpool City Region to audiences around the world is something I’m really proud of.”

For those who may not be familiar with your role, how does research help Liverpool attract conferences, meetings and events?

“Research helps identify future conference opportunities, understand emerging sectors and connect with influencers and decision makers who can help bring events to Liverpool.

“A big part of that is finding ambassadors across the city region who are leaders in their field and have strong professional networks. Those relationships can open doors to conferences, collaborations and events that bring investment, knowledge and visitors to Liverpool.

“By uncovering new connections and bringing the right people together, we can help attract events that contribute to the region’s growth while also introducing delegates to Liverpool’s culture, expertise and visitor offer.”

Liverpool City Region has strengths across sectors such as health, science, innovation and advanced manufacturing. Which areas are you most excited to learn more about?

“With a degree in Biomedical Science, healthcare and scientific research are the areas that naturally catch my attention first. I’m really interested in learning more about the innovative work happening across the region’s hospitals and universities, and the impact that’s having on the future of healthcare.

“I’m also looking forward to exploring Liverpool City Region’s manufacturing sector.. More than anything, I’m excited to build a deeper understanding of the many organisations, industries and initiatives that help make the region successful.”

A key part of your role is supporting the development of Liverpool’s ambassador network, Club Liverpool. What makes someone a great champion for the city region?

“The best ambassadors are passionate about attracting events, investment and collaborations that benefit the region. They’re willing to share their expertise, open doors through their networks and champion Liverpool on a national and international stage.

“For me, it’s about people who are not only leaders in their own field but are also willing to collaborate, learn from others and help create new opportunities for the wider city region.”

What has impressed you most about Liverpool’s visitor economy and events community since joining?

“The thing that’s stood out most is just how passionate people are about the city region and about delivering great events. There is a real sense of pride and genuine desire to do things well.

“I’ve also gained a much greater appreciation for the amount of work that happens behind the scenes. Building relationships with venues, partners and stakeholders takes a huge amount of collaboration, and it’s clear that organisations across the city region are committed to working together.

“It’s been fascinating to see the scale and complexity of the visitor economy and the number of people involved in creating memorable experiences for visitors.”

Looking ahead, what would success look like for you in your first year with Liverpool Convention Bureau?

“I intend to play an active role in helping identify and attract conferences and events that further strengthen Liverpool’s reputation as a leading destination for meetings and major events.

“The city region has so much to offer, from its rich culture and unique identity to its world-class venues and expertise, and I’m passionate about helping showcase those strengths to new audiences.

“I’m also eager to build strong relationships across the city region, working closely with venues, businesses and stakeholders to create partnerships that support future growth and long-term success.”

Finally, what would you like our partners across Liverpool City Region to know about you?

“I’m definitely someone who likes to immerse myself in a project. Sometimes that means disappearing down a rabbit hole of research, but I’ve found that when you’re looking at conferences and future event opportunities, even the smallest detail can end up being really valuable.

“I’m also really looking forward to meeting people and building connections across the city region. The more I learn about the organisations and individuals helping drive Liverpool’s success, the better equipped I’ll be to support future conferences, events and partnerships. That’s probably the part of the role I’m most excited about.”

As she begins her journey with Liverpool Convention Bureau, Lucy is already helping identify the relationships, sectors and opportunities that could bring future conferences and events to Liverpool City Region.

It’s a role that combines curiosity, collaboration and a passion for the city, all qualities that will help support the destination’s continued success on the global stage.
