Liverpool City Region Destination Partnership (LCRDP) is proud to support Learning Disability Week 2026, joining organisations across the country in raising awareness and promoting more inclusive environments for all.
Learning Disability Week takes place from today, Monday 15 June to Sunday 21 June and is an annual opportunity to celebrate the contributions of people with learning disabilities by challenging stereotypes and highlighting the importance of creating accessible and welcoming spaces across communities.
As part of this, LCRDP is encouraging partners, venues and businesses across the visitor economy to reflect on the role they can play in making experiences more inclusive.
Simple changes, such as using clear and accessible communication, improving physical accessibility and listening to people with lived experience, can make a meaningful difference to how people experience places, services and events.
With Liverpool City Region preparing to host several major international events in the coming years, ensuring accessibility is a key priority. Creating inclusive visitor experiences not only benefits individuals but strengthens the region’s reputation as a welcoming destination for all.
Supporting this ongoing commitment, LCRDP will host the FREE Accessibility for All Forum 2026 later this month on the 29th of June at M&S Bank Arena from 9:30am – 12:30pm. The event will bring together Liverpool City Region’s visitor economy venues, organisers and partners to explore practical ways to improve accessibility across events and the wider visitor economy.
Emphasising the role of the visitor economy in driving inclusive change, Janet Nuzum, Visitor Economy Sector Manager at Liverpool City Region Destination Partnership, said:
“Learning Disability Week is an important moment for reflection, but more importantly, it’s a call to action for our sector. As a visitor economy, we have a responsibility and a real opportunity, to ensure that everyone can enjoy what our region has to offer, without barriers.
“Creating truly inclusive experiences isn’t about one-off changes; it’s about embedding accessibility into how we design, deliver and think about our offer every day. When we get this right, we don’t just improve experiences for people with learning disabilities, we elevate the quality and welcome for all visitors.
“That’s why initiatives like our Accessibility for All Forum are so important. They provide a space for partners to come together, share practical ideas and build the confidence to take meaningful action. By working collaboratively, we can continue to position Liverpool City Region as a destination that is genuinely open, inclusive and welcoming to everyone.”
Through shared learning, collaboration and a focus on real-world action, the forum aims to help organisations build confidence and capability in delivering inclusive experiences.
As Learning Disability Week highlights the importance of awareness, LCRDP remains committed to working alongside partners to turn that awareness into lasting, meaningful change across the region.
