VisitEngland visited Wirral last week as part of its new Domestic North West Coastal Campaign, designed to encourage more people to explore the region’s coastline ahead of the spring break season.
The visit formed part of wider national activity to spotlight stand‑out coastal destinations across England. Wirral was selected for its mix of beaches, independent businesses, and visitor experiences spanning New Brighton, Wallasey and surrounding areas.
As part of the visit, Wirral was hosted by VisitEngland’s Regional Lead for the North West and West Midlands, Nicola Said, and VisitBritain/VisitEngland Policy and Public Affairs Manager, Helen Hill, who were on the ground to gather content, meet local partners and help shape promotional activity for the national coastal campaign.
During the visit, Nicola and Helen toured key locations across the peninsula, supported by senior members of the Liverpool City Region Destination Partnership and Dame Angela Eagle DBE, Minister of State for Food Security and Rural Affairs, who joined to help champion the value of the area’s visitor economy.
Natalie Wyatt, Managing Director, Liverpool City Region Destination Partnership, welcomed the visit, stating:
“We are incredibly grateful to VisitEngland for choosing the Northwest for its domestic national coastal campaign. This has allowed us to shine the spotlight on both Sefton and Wirral, and I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to Nicola Said and Helen Hill for spending the day with us. Their insight, enthusiasm and partnership are invaluable.
“Wirral’s distictive blend of natural landscapes, independent businesses and cultural experiences positions it as a destination with both immediate appeal and long‑term growth potential. By working closely with VisitEngland, we’re ensuring our coastal offer is not only visible nationally, but competitive, compelling and future‑ready.
“Liverpool City Region’s coastline isn’t just a beautiful backdrop, it’s a vital, strategic economic asset. Successful campaigns like this help us unlock the full value of that asset by driving higher‑value visits, supporting year‑round demand and strengthening the resilience of our coastal communities.”
The trip also included filming for forthcoming digital content featuring Wirral in the national campaign. VisitEngland confirmed that the footage will be shared with local partners once final edits are complete.
