THE COUNTDOWN IS ON: ATTEND THE WORLD BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS LIVERPOOL 2025

Liverpool is preparing to make sporting history. From 4 to 14 September 2025, the M&S Bank Arena will host the inaugural World Boxing Championships, welcoming more than 500 elite male and female athletes from over 60 nations.

Liverpool’s own Callum Makin and Odel Kamara have been named in the GB Boxing squad, bringing hometown pride to the ring as they prepare to compete. This landmark event marks the largest Olympic-style boxing competition in the UK since the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Organised by World Boxing, the new international federation for Olympic-style boxing, this will be the first-ever Elite-level global championships under its banner. It is also the first time in history that both male and female boxers will compete side by side for the title of World Boxing Champion at the same event.

Liverpool’s successful bid to host the Championships was led by a powerful partnership including England Boxing, GB Boxing, Liverpool City Council, Culture Liverpool, and the M&S Bank Arena, with vital support from UK Sport and The National Lottery. The city’s proven track record in staging major international events made it the ideal choice for this historic occasion.

Jen Falding, Liverpool City Council’s Head of Major Sports Events, is thrilled to welcome the event to our city, she said:

“Liverpool City Region lives and breathes sport, and hosting the inaugural World Boxing Championships is a powerful statement of our ambition and global standing. This is more than a competition, it’s a celebration of excellence, diversity and the spirit of Olympic-style boxing. We’re proud to welcome this championship event to our city, and confident that Liverpool will once again deliver an unforgettable experience for athletes, fans and the sport itself.”

The competition will feature ten weight classes for men and ten for women, showcasing the very best of international boxing talent. With entries now officially closed, the full list of competing nations will be announced shortly.
