A national event for organisers of major sporting events was hosted yesterday in Liverpool for the first time.
UK Sport Event Partners Day was held in Liverpool as more than 200 people descended on the city.
A key part of the event is for partners to share and discuss the ‘Event Hosting Target List’, which covers the major sporting events the UK hope to bid for over the next 10 years.
Jen Falding, our Head of Major Sports and Events, met with counterparts from across the UK, and sport’s governing bodies to discuss upcoming sporting events, and how UK cities can collaboratively work together in future.
Jen sat on a panel at Anfield stadium to talk about Liverpool’s strategy, and some of the key factors that are considered when selecting the events and sports LCC and the city and city region’s venues wish to bid for.
It capped a busy week for Jen, who also hosted the UK Sport Host City Meeting at St George’s Hall where colleagues from across the UK discussed best practice and how we can all support the UK in continuing to be a global leader of sports events. The cities were also given a sneak preview of Everton’s stunning new stadium.
She was then joined by Councillor Harry Doyle, who welcomed everyone to the city on Wednesday night at the Royal Liver Building and reiterated the importance of sports and cultural events to the city. Jen said:
“The Event Partners Day is one of the most impactful days of the year, so it was wonderful to host the event in Liverpool and showcase the city, especially in the sunshine. The passion and enthusiasm for sports events in that room is on another level; there were so many fabulous conversations to take forward and explore new opportunities for Liverpool and the city region.”
Whilst future event planning is underway, two fantastic events already in the calendar, the World Boxing Championships taking place 4-14 September this year at the M&S Bank Arena, and the city has already been announced as one of the eight cities that will host UEFA EURO 2028.
