A popular Wirral fish and chip shop has secured national recognition after scooping two major accolades at the English Fish & Chips Awards 2026.
Pisces, located on Milner Road, was named Best Fish & Chip Shop in the North West, while owner Cos Michael was crowned Best Fryer in the UK, marking a significant achievement for the long-established Wirral business.
The awards celebrate excellence across the fish and chip industry, recognising businesses that demonstrate outstanding standards in areas including food quality, customer service, sustainability, consistency and innovation.
For Michael, the honour reflects years of dedication to the trade. Having grown up in a family with deep roots in the fish and chip industry, he has spent much of his life learning and developing the skills that have helped Pisces become one of the region’s best-known independent takeaways.
Speaking to the Wirral Globe, Mr Cos Michael said:
“Winning both the UK’s top frying accolade and the regional shop title is a huge achievement for both Pisces and the Wirral.
“The awards recognise not only exceptional cooking but also sustainability, consistency, innovation and outstanding customer service.
“It’s due to hard work and our customers we are where we are today and we will continue to give back to our community as a thank you.”
Serving the Heswall community for more than 25 years, Pisces has become a popular destination for fish and chip lovers across Liverpool City Region and beyond. The takeaway now serves around 2,000 orders each week and has built a reputation for quality that has attracted customers from across the North West.
Alongside its success in the fryer, Pisces has also earned praise for its commitment to sustainability and community support. The business has previously been recognised among the UK’s most environmentally responsible fish and chip shops and has raised thousands of pounds for local charities, schools, sports clubs and community initiatives.
The latest accolades add to a growing collection of industry honours for Pisces, further strengthening the Liverpool City Region’s reputation as a destination for outstanding food and drink experiences.
For visitors exploring Wirral, the award-winning takeaway offers another reason to discover the area’s thriving independent food scene, which continues to gain recognition on both a regional and national stage.
