Liverpool to Host British Science Festival 2025: A Catalyst for Innovation, Collaboration and Culture

This autumn, from 10–14 September 2025, Liverpool will take centre stage as the British Science Festival returns with a bold, city-wide celebration of science, innovation and creativity.

Hosted in partnership with the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University, the Festival promises to transform the city into a vibrant hub of discovery, dialogue and inspiration.

A Premier Platform for Science and Society

As Europe’s longest-running science festival, the British Science Festival is renowned for connecting the public with cutting-edge research and the people behind it. This year’s edition will feature nearly 100 free events, spanning talks, performances, workshops and immersive experiences — all designed to engage audiences aged 16+ and beyond.

From genetics and gaming to climate, culture and AI, the Festival’s programming reflects science in its broadest sense. It’s a unique opportunity for businesses, educators, researchers and policymakers to engage with the public, forge new partnerships and spotlight the role of science in shaping our future.

Highlights to Watch

  • Keynote speakers include bionic arm ambassador and influencer Tilly Lockey, geneticist Giles Yeo, and Time Team genealogist Sophie Kay.
  • Award Lectures from seven early-career researchers will explore topics such as synthetic antibodies, snake venoms, the evolution of prosthetics, and the future of hearing aids.
  • Creative installations include artwork made from thousands of human teeth and a carnival-style dance performance inspired by migratory birds.
  • Interactive experiences range from a walking tour exploring Liverpool’s scientific and historical ties to slavery, to a collaborative mapping of the city’s music scene.

A City-Wide Celebration

Events will take place across Liverpool city centre, including the docks and university campuses, with venues chosen to reflect the city’s rich cultural and scientific heritage. The Festival is expected to draw thousands of visitors, offering a significant boost to the local economy and positioning Liverpool as a national leader in science engagement.

Why It Matters for Business

For B2B audiences, the British Science Festival offers more than just public engagement. It’s a strategic platform to:

  • Showcase innovation and research impact
  • Network with thought leaders across academia, industry and the public sector
