Sysco Business Skills Academy has launched a new fully funded Skills Bootcamp designed to build a stronger workforce pipeline for Liverpool City Region’s visitor economy.
The Tour Guide Bootcamp, funded through the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s Skills Bootcamp initiative, aims to equip residents with practical, employer‑focused tourism skills while helping local operators address ongoing recruitment challenges.
The three‑week programme will provide hands‑on training in guiding, storytelling, customer service and ticketing operations. Crucially, all participants will be guaranteed interviews with several key tour operators that are actively recruiting across the region.
The initiative forms part of the Combined Authority’s wider Skills for Life programme, which supports residents into good-quality jobs while helping local businesses access talent with the right skills from day one.
Building a Future‑Ready Tourism Workforce
Tourism continues to be one of the Liverpool City Region’s most important economic sectors. As visitor numbers grow, the demand for professional, knowledgeable tour guides has increased, creating a clear opportunity for structured skills development.
The new Bootcamp responds directly to that employer need. Training has been shaped with input from local industry professionals to ensure it reflects real‑world requirements on the ground.
The programme is open to residents aged 19 and over who live within the Liverpool City Region and can commit to the three‑week schedule. Individuals must not have taken part in another Skills Bootcamp since April 2025.
Employer‑Led. Fully Funded. Designed for Impact.
Programme highlights include:
- Fully funded places for eligible learners
- Three weeks of part‑time, intensive training (Mon–Wed)
- Masterclasses delivered by established tourism operators
- Direct interview opportunities upon completion
The course will run in March, with an open day taking place on 26 February 2026, offering sessions at 10am and 1pm. The event will be hosted at Sysco Business Skills Academy’s Threlfall Building, Trueman Street, Liverpool.
Supporting Growth Across the Visitor Economy
The Bootcamp is positioned to support both jobseekers and tourism businesses by improving the quality and availability of skilled guides at a time when the region is expanding its cultural and heritage offer.
Businesses interested in connecting with the programme or exploring future collaboration opportunities can do so via Sysco Business Skills Academy.
