Liverpool’s visitor economy has a new flagship. The Municipal Hotel & Spa Liverpool, part of Accor’s MGallery Hotel Collection, has officially been awarded an AA five-star rating, making it the only hotel in the city to hold this prestigious accreditation.
Just three years after opening, the hotel has achieved a milestone that reflects the strength of its hospitality culture, the professionalism of its team, and consistently high service standards. The AA inspection team praised the property for delivering excellence across the board.
The Municipal also holds the highest number of Les Clefs d’Or keys in Liverpool, with three qualified concierge team members providing guests with world-class hospitality.
Adding to the celebration, the hotel’s Seaforth restaurant, a brasserie-style dining experience, has been awarded an AA Rosette.

Located on Dale Street, The Municipal is housed in the Grade II-listed former council building, which underwent a £70 million restoration. The hotel now features 179 bedrooms, a restaurant, an afternoon tearoom, a bar and a spa.
Earlier this year, developers behind the £1 billion King Edward Triangle scheme announced plans to open a five-star hotel in Liverpool for the first time since the early 20th century. While those plans are still in development, The Municipal has taken the lead, securing its place as Liverpool’s only official five-star hotel.
